Recent graduate, and Operations Manager of the Castleton Polling Institute, Ryan Flood was recognized for his surveying research work, receiving the Burns “Bud” Roper Fellow Award from the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).
Recipients of this highly competitive award must be nominated by a member of the AAPOR for their demonstration of responsibilities related to survey research or public opinion and must have recently started their careers.
Flood marks the first Castleton student to receive an AAPOR award and said he is both excited and honored to be recognized on a national level.
“This is the award that will help your career forever,” he said.
As a student, Flood worked as a supervisor of the Polling Institute and following his December 2013 graduation, he remained on campus and moved to a full-time Operations Manager position working under Director of the Polling Institute Rich Clark.
Flood said the new position gave him the opportunity to have a hand in all aspects of the Polling Institute with a strong focus on survey planning, scheduling, and overseeing daily activities.
In addition to the new full-time position, he has also spent the semester taking graduate courses online in research through the University of Connecticut.
Flood will head out to Anaheim, Calif. for the 69th Annual AAPOR Conference in May, where he will be honored for his achievement.
“I am extremely happy about the award,” he said. “But it wouldn’t have been possible without the background I got here at Castleton, specifically from Rich.”
