Have you hit-a-wall? Do you feel burned-out as an educator or leader? We have been seeing an unusually high number of teachers and leaders leave the education field in larger number than before. Throughout this course teachers and school leaders can practically apply concepts through continuous reflection to teaching, learning, K-12 leadership, and higher education leadership while effectively identifying personal causes, symptoms, and develop possible strategies to combat burnout. Virtual classes, including the 1st class, will be determined by the majority of the participants in the class via email about 2 weeks before the start of the course.
Audience: Any Educator, Leaders K-12+, Higher Ed Leaders
Throughout this four (4) week course, those enrolled will be introduced to several methods and techniques of building understanding and strategies to combat burnout in the education through personal reflection. Students will be guided through a personal practice of reflective exercises and personalized coaching between instructor and student to foster a deeper understanding of the causes, symptoms, and strategies of educator burnout. Using real-life practices, students will reflect on their current level of burnout and refine what processes and techniques will work best for them through readings, and then develop a plan of action that will include personal tools to combat educator burnout. As a conductor, guest speaker, educator, and pianist, Dr. Eddie Wilkin encourages everyone to find their core being through music and self-discovery. Eddie’s philosophy is built on past experiences at home, in school, and through his recent musical activities. Eddie thoroughly enjoys working with students of all ages in a wide array of disciplines. Eddie is currently the Assistant Principal at the Nantucket Intermediate School in Nantucket, Massachusetts and course instructor/designer with the VTSU Center for Schools. He is also the Founder of Lighthouse Education and Coaching (providing PD and educational opportunities for the education workforce) and the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Nantucket Community Music Centers’ Community Chorus. Through his enjoyment and craft of leadership, Eddie has received many honors and awards, including but not limited to the GMMDV New Music Educator of the Year (2016), ARSU Teacher of the Year (2017), UVM Teacher of the Year (2017), Grammy Music Educator Semi-Finalist (2018 & 2019), Vermont, Teacher of the Year, Finalist (2018), and GMMDV Music Teacher of the Year (2019).
