Course Description

The Big Ideas

AI resources are exploding. There is a lot of controversy about this topic. AI tools are easy to use and allow teachers to tap into course design tools, engagement resources, and applications for students to use in learning and assessment.

AI is here to stay. Teachers must consider how to utilize and recognized AI in Education. AI is everywhere and integrated into tools we are familiar with and use daily.

There is a movement to block AI in schools. However, we cannot stop every AI tool on school networks. And, if we try to block all AI in schools, it becomes an equity issue. By controlling what students can access on district-managed machines, students with their own personal devices can dig into AI, while students without home devices and networks cannot. It becomes inequitable due to the lack of access and ability to understand and explore the tools. Large districts are blocking AI like ChatGPT with concerns about cheating. In the long run, this is not sustainable and is reactive.

AI tools can be integrated into any content area and already works with various learning management systems. We will look at a plethora of AI, from simple tools to complicated ideas. In the process, educators will become more informed and prepared to discuss this subject with greater comfort and a deeper understanding of how AI challenges our field.

What We'll Do

• Explore how to design various projects using iPads and AI applications.
• Use an iPad to integrate, create and save audio, photos, and video we design with AI tools
• Sign up for some AI groups and resources to access and stay informed about educational tools.
• Explore how to spot AI which already exists in products we use
• Examine how to engage students and parents through these exciting tools
• Discuss ethical issues in AI

Course Goals & Objectives:

• Teachers will effectively integrate AI into their classrooms for enhanced teaching and learning.
• Teachers will produce working resources in their subject area to implement in their classrooms during the school year.   These are resources that they can start using immediately. The course's power is that it gives participants time to discover new ideas, develop new skills, and integrate technology into their existing curriculum. 

 Course Objectives: 

Participants will be able to:

1. Effectively integrate the use of computer technology into the classroom curriculum
2. Sharpen skills as forward-thinking technology users
3. Develop new connections between technology tools and the content area
4. Share these resources with district colleagues
