Shannon Newell is a Castleton alum and former student of the Southern Vermont TRIO/Upward Bound program. She began teaching part-time in the psychology department in the fall of 2005 and joined as a full-time faculty member in 2013. Additionally, she is employed as a school psychologist. She serves on the professional development board of the Vermont Association of School Psychologists and is a member of the American Psychological Association, National Association of School Psychologists and Eastern Psychological Association. Areas of interest include: assessment and identification of disabilities for children and adolescence, social competence development in children, and brain injury in children and adolescence.
When she is not teaching or involved in her practice, she spends time with her family enjoying the outdoors,attending sporting events and exercising. Successfully integrating her career and family are important to her and it is not uncommon to see her on campus with her son in tow.
