Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparation program designed to encourage students to develop the academic skills and motivation necessary for success in post-secondary education. The program focuses on providing equal opportunity for students who would be the first in their respective families to obtain a college degree but because of income level or other disadvantages may not continue their education. Upward Bound serves students in grades 9-12 and is a part of the Academic Support Center at Castleton University.
To provide tutoring services to student participants through the use of available materials, resources, academic knowledge, and personal abilities that will enable students to successfully meet the requirements of a specific course, as well as provide students with guidance that will aid in their success in high school and college, such as study skills assistance, mentoring on college life, and challenging environments that encourage students to learn, share, question, and grow.
Applicants must have a high energy level and be able to communicate effectively with 9th-12th grade students. Minimum requirements: Undergraduate or graduate student having an overall GPA of 3.0 with a minimum of 3.0 in the subject area to be tutored. Undergraduates must have completed one semester (12 hours) of college coursework.
Tutoring takes place after school at selected schools in Rutland County. You must be able to provide your own transportation to and from schools.
$10.78 per hour ($12 per hour for applicants with a bachelor's degree or more)
