Upward Bound alumna and Castleton psychology freshman Brenda Corbett was recently announced as the recipient of a $500 scholarship through the Heiberg Consulting Student Access Scholarship program.
The scholarship is awarded annually to students who participated in equal opportunity programs, such as TRIO Upward Bound. Winners are chosen in a regional competition, which recognizes academic potential and students who have overcome significant barriers to pursue higher education.
“Brenda is driven to succeed despite obstacles that have come her way,” said Castleton Upward Bound Director Jennifer Jones, who nominated Corbett for the scholarship. “She is a natural problem-solver and is determined to one day be a counselor, so she can help others with similar difficulties.”
Brenda is a 2014 graduate of Poultney High School where she participated in soccer, softball and cheering. At Castleton, she is a member of the Student Support Network.
