Taking a traditional campus tour to innovative online channels, Castleton University recently partnered with YouVisit to compile a virtual walking tour. Making it easier for people both near and far to get a glimpse of the Castleton experience, the University released the final product earlier this spring allowing prospective students, parents, and other interested parties to tour Castleton in virtual reality.
“Our visitors always rate their campus tour very high because they get to see first-hand our beautiful campus and welcoming community,” explained Dean of Enrollment Maurice Ouimet. “Since Castleton is now attracting so many students from outside the region, we need to keep in mind how important our online presence is to engage with people who may not know as much about us.”
To create the virtual space, YouVisit spent three days on campus putting together the walking tour, 360 videos, and interactive pieces.
The tour includes 15 different stops, highlighting campus destinations such as the Castleton Fine Arts Center, Campus Center, Spartan Arena, TV Studio, Athletic Training rooms, dining halls and dorm rooms. Available in both English and Mandarin, each stop is complete with tour guide audio and features a 360-degree view of each space with six interactive pieces embedded within the tour.
“This virtual tour will definitely impress prospective students, parents, and counselors from around the world and motivate them to want to connect with us in person,” said Ouimet, adding that the virtual tour was made possible by a combined effort from the Castleton Admissions Office and Marketing and Communications Office. “I am thrilled to have such a high-quality virtual tour experience for our prospective students and families.”
