At fall Convocation, senior and Fair Haven, VT native Ken Stone was honored as the Fall Commuter Student of the Semester. A Computer Information Systems major, Stone was recognized for his dedication to his studies and hard work and involvement in other areas of campus and the community.
As a non-traditional commuter student, Stone is heavily involved in various organizations and groups across campus. He built the system that extracts data on wind and solar energy production on campus as a member of the Green Campus Working Groups, worked with the Castleton Polling Institute to develop a database of local ordinances in Rutland County related to alcohol sales, use, and restrictions, and was named Best Presentation at the Castleton Scholars Celebration last spring where he presented an interactive display.
Stone's achievements go far beyond the classroom. His off-campus work includes serving as a full-time IT consultant, as well as a private consultant for database related projects which have allowed him to share his work statewide.
"I don't know when he sleeps, between his full-time work as an IT consultant off campus, his classes, his family, and his job," said Professor and Director of the Castleton Polling Institute Rich Clark.
