Senior communications major Ryan Ackerman's design has been chosen by the Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences (VAAS) as its new logo. Ackerman submitted a logo that “masterfully showed a connection to Vermont and to the VAAS mission and history," said VAAS President Connell Gallagher. His logo was chosen from among dozens of submissions from students all over the state. As the winner of the contest, Ackerman also gets a cash prize of $250.
"The logo had to represent the mission, purpose, and activities of VAAS," Ackerman said. "I really wanted to give the logo some Vermont flair. The mountains dominating the background symbolize how VAAS systematically disseminates the arts, sciences, and humanities throughout our state."
The Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences is an organization that works to foster intensive youth participation in the arts, humanities and sciences within the state.
This is the second time Ackerman has won a statewide design contest. Last year he designed the winning T-shirt logo for SolarFest, the annual festival showcasing solar energy. In addition to offering design and social media consulting to businesses around the region, Ackerman also works in e-Commerce at The Vermont Country Store, and has recently signed on with PUMA North America in Boston.
"I'm honored to be the winner chosen from such a large and talented pool of candidates. I'm excited that my design best represents what VAAS stands for and will continue to do so in the future. I'm graduating in May, but this logo will continue to be used. I left my mark, and that's special to me."
